Author/editor Sara DeLuca, will read excerpts from her latest book, “Heavy Marching: The Civil War Letters of Lute Moseley, 22nd Wisconsin,” recently published by University of Wisconsin Press. Readings will be interspersed with music from the Civil War period, performed by pianist Susan Hellerud.

During her commentary, Sara will describe the process of curating, transcribing, researching, footnoting and editing the wealth of material in “Heavy Marching,” which kept her well occupied for over two years. The book had a long and circuitous route to publication.

Sara has previously published two books with Minnesota Historical Society Press – “Dancing the Cows Home: A Wisconsin Girlhood (1995)” and “The Crops Look Good: News from a Wisconsin Family Farm (2015),” which is based on a collection of family letters written from 1923 through 1955. Sara loves working with “first-person material, unfiltered history written by those who lived it.”
