Porch-Sitting Conversations
Wednesday, April 28 | 4:00 pm | Zoom
Come on over to the Porch for more conversation about Race and Right now with Julia Dinsmore. In light of the conviction of Derek Chauvin last week, we’re taking another look at the historical and current realities of policing and race. Without downplaying that these are complicated issues with lots of real people involved, we also acknowledge there are real disparities that exist and our faith calls us not to look away from suffering – wherever it is found.
Homework:
- NPR’s highlight on the origins of Policing: https://www.npr.org/2021/04/07/985039407/policing-in-america?fbclid=IwAR3NF4Zh0YbEBfeFYhIzcokyhhmruLItENschyHoe2jdbhwjGrsEEeevKa0
- Saturday Night Live’s own commentary for discussion https://www.facebook.com/AmberMRuffin/posts/281102003645971 What surprises you? What reputable studies/information can you find on your own? As always, let’s check our sources!
- Go ahead and start reading chapter 3 of Charles (Dick) Peterson’s With Bible in One Hand and Newspaper in the Other. We’ll talk about it in a few weeks.
