Step Forward & Engage: As Worship Assistants
Being an acolyte is an up-close altar experience that is faith formative and puts youth in an active role in worship alongside pastors and others. Acolytes assist with sacraments: the lighting of candles, Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, collection of offering, and healing prayers.
Crucifers lead worship processions while carrying the cross at the beginning and end of each service.
Diaconate (Communion servers)
Diaconates assist with baptisms, help serve Holy Communion, and participate in healing prayers during worship services.
Lectors read Bible passages during worship services. Lectors are asked to read 1 to 3 times a year at the service time of their choosing. Readers of all ages are encouraged participate.
Sacristans (worship helpers)
Sacristans assist those participating in worship with basic preparation. They prepare items and people for their place in worship, fitting robes, marking pages in Bible for readers, and organizing those involved with assisting in worship.
Ushers provide hospitality, welcome, guidance, and support for those who enter the church and the sanctuary. Ushers distribute worship bulletins, collect offering, and aid with emergency or safety procedures. Ushering is fun way to meet people at NLC!

Step Forward & Engage: With Worship Environment
The Altar Guild maintains and prepares Holy Communion elements and Holy Baptism supplies, as well as seasonal paraments for the altar and pulpit. Teams set the altar table with appropriate items, and put them away post-worship. Altar teams can be made up of pairs or small groups.
Sanctuary Servants help tidy the sanctuary, and serve on a rotation. On their week to serve, they choose what day and time to come in and pick-up in the pews, tidy hymnals, and replenish any pew supplies.
Worship Environment Team
The Environment team transforms the worship space seasonally to help create meaningful worship experiences. This team meets seasonally as needed, typically on Saturday mornings, to design, build, and create visual elements for our Sanctuary space and common areas.
