Young ones are a critical part of our congregational life. Their sense of wonder is a gift to us all. We believe families are the most important influence in a child’s faith development, so we partner with you to help your children discover God’s love and to live their developing faith in everyday life.

There’s something for all ages this summer: Vacation Bible School, Summer Stretch Day Camp, Camp Vermilion Trip and Wilderness Canoe Base Camping Trip! Read below to learn about each program and click the links to register today. Please register your child with their current grade level. Scholarships are available for every program, talk to Lily if you are in need of a scholarship. Come hangout with us all summer!
June 10-13 | 9 am to Noon
Age 3 (must be potty trained) to 2nd grade
Price: $65/ camper
At VBS we will learn Bible Stories, play outside, create Bible themed crafts, participate in science experiments, sing songs, eat snacks and have fun! The 2024 VBS theme is SCUBA and we will be diving deep into friendship with GOD! We are going under the sea to meet creatures and colorful fish along the way. Join us for this unforgettable week!
Summer Stretch
June 18 – 20 | 9 am to 2 pm
3rd – 5th grade
Price: $150/ camper
“Mystery Bus” Camp for kids who have completed 3rd-5th grade! We will meet at Normandale Lutheran Church each day and go to a surprise service location in the morning, and a surprise FUN location for the afternoon. Join us for this exciting week of service & play!
July 16 – 20
3rd – 8th grade
Price: $650/ camper
Join us in God’s Great Northwoods for a week of Camp at Camp Vermilion in Cook, Minnesota. About 3 hours from the cities we will stay in cabins, canoe, swim, sing songs, eat yummy food, play yard games, have bonfires, create crafts, go to Bible Study and make great friends. Scholarships are available as needed.
August 14 & August 15
*Family Concert on August 15, 5pm
All Current 3rd – 6th graders
Price: $50/ camper
Join us for this NEW children’s Choir Camp Music Festival right here at NLC. We will spend 2 days together in August learning new songs, playing games, sharing a meal, making new friends and celebrating choral music! Please join us and invite your friends as we welcome singers from neighboring churches, schools and communities!

For this event we will welcome guest Director Elizabeth Shepley. Elizabeth is the President of the Choristers Guild and former Choral director of the Northfield Youth Choirs and Bethel Lutheran Church. We are excited to make music with her! Our own director of Children’s Music, Lily Askegaard, will be leading alongside Elizabeth as well.
The fee for Choir Camp will include music & materials, lunch, snacks and a T-Shirt!

Cherub Choir

Children’s Choir
Wednesdays | 6:00 – 6:45 pm
Open to singers in grades 3 – 6
Music is a priority here, and we start building strong voices early! We invite all kindergarten through grade 6 students to participate in our active choir program. Choirs rehearse weekly to prepare for once monthly performances in worship. Community building activities and fun will be intertwined into the rehearsal experience and schedule. Join us! Rehearsals will begin September 13, 2023. Singers are welcome to join mid-season.

Age 3 – Grade 4
Sundays, starting September 17, 2023
10:40-11:30 am
Sunday School classes meet in age-appropriate large groups for musical instruction with a lead music teacher. Each grade level will also have small group teachers to facilitate games, discussion, and hands-on projects. Throughout the year, Sunday School children will learn songs during music class and will be invited to share this music during Sunday worship services.
Grades 5-6
Wednesdays, starting September 13, 2023
7:00 – 7:45 pm
We have created a youth group experience for your older kids. We’re excited to engage them in a more age-appropriate level of learning, while building community and excitement for the confirmation program, which will begin in grade 7.

Age 3 – Grade 4
Milestones in a child’s faith life. Faith Markers help connect families to each other and to the congregation. As a beautiful coincidence, these opportunities also strengthen your family’s relationship with God.
Grades 2-4
We extend a special invitation for communion instruction for families with children in grades 2-4, but also welcome instruction for younger children and their families. Whether this is your child’s first communion or your child has communed for many years, this instruction is a time to find deep connection in this sacrament of the Lutheran church.

For the youngest members of our community, faith-based educational experiences are offered through Normandale Preschool (age 33 months to 5 years) and Blessing Place (age 18-33 months).
